Head of Renewable Energy Business Section, Business Development Division, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) - Thailand - ASLIP 2024

Malchutar Kingnet is a professional in the field of renewable energy and digital utility business development. She specialized in renewable energy-related policy engagement, working directly with governments and companies in addressing and transform the challenges of environmental sustainability and promoting the growth of renewable energy and EAC market mechanism. As the Head, Renewable Energy Business Section at EGAT, Malchutar oversees and directs responsible for renewable energy business related activities for EGAT and strategic transformation in Thailand and ASEAN. She has over 10 years working experience in various aspects of business development including renewable energy, decarbonization, technology and innovation. Malchutar holds a LL.B. in Laws, a Master’s degree in Business Administration in Thailand and a minor degree in marketing, media and global communication from University of California, Irvine. 

What were the highlights and key takeaways from ASLIP 2024? 

ASLIP 2024 was a great experience focused on the intersection of business and climate change, with the goal of moving towards net-zero emissions. The course emphasized the strategic risks and opportunities posed by climate change. A key highlight was understanding how resilient infrastructure can drive sustainability and profitability simultaneously. Real-world case studies showcased successful low-carbon initiatives, providing practical insights. Another takeaway was the importance of collaboration, which the course stressed as crucial for balancing the needs of people, profit, and the planet. Finally, the development of a personalized low-carbon transition action plan helped solidify these lessons, providing a roadmap to make meaningful progress toward sustainability goals. 

How have you integrated the knowledge and skills you've gained into your current role? 

I have applied the skills gained from ASLIP 2024 into my role by prioritizing low-carbon strategies in our projects. The course's focus on risk mitigation and long-term resilience allowed me to approach renewable energy infrastructure development with a new perspective. Specifically, I’ve integrated strategic insights to identify and reduce the business risks related to climate change. Additionally, I’ve been using the collaborative leadership techniques learned to engage cross-functional teams and working towards carbon-free energy systems. The discussion developed during the residential programme has been instrumental in setting clear milestones for integrating climate goals into EGAT’s business strategy, ensuring our projects align with long-term sustainability objectives. 

What advice would you offer future participants to help them make the most of their experience?

I’d recommend that participants fully engage with the interactive elements and apply the lessons to your country and organization’s sustainability goals. Focus on the practical case studies, which offer concrete strategies for implementing low-carbon initiatives. Use the action plan to set specific goals, both for yourself and your organization. The key is to keep an open mind and be willing to rethink traditional business models in light of climate change, and share your insights with colleagues to create broader impact.
